PAL and CEB Collaborate on Tacloban Flights

15 November 2013

In the First ever collaboration of two competing airlines, PAL Express and Cebu Pacific forged an agreement Thursday to carry passengers from Manila to Tacloban airport and vice versa on board its A320 aircraft as part of its disaster relief efforts to stranded passengers with tickets from both airlines.

The Airlines have been given the green light by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to resume flights to Tacloban City with Airbus A320 jets Wednesday after Americans installed temporary navigational aids at the airport.

CAAP Deputy Director General Captain John C. Andrews described the collaboration as good for passengers where they can fly PAL Express with tickets issued by Cebu Pacific or fly Cebu Pacific with tickets issued by PAL Express.

Only two airlines, PAL Express and Cebu Pacific, are permitted to mount special flights to Tacloban airport from Manila with the use of Airbus 320s. However,  PAL Express operates 10 round-trip flights daily between Cebu and Tacloban using Q400 turboprop aircraft while Cebu Pacific operates four flights a day between Cebu and Tacloban using an ATR aircraft .
