PAL Ends Darwin Stop, Halts flights from Kalibo to Guangzhou

Flies Brisbane Direct beginning March 24

2 January 2018

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced that it will fly direct to Brisbane beginning March 24, 2018 as it upgrades its Manila-Brisbane-Manila route to new 168 seater A321NEO aircraft with backseat IFEs and wifi services, as it accelerates efforts to join the prestigious circle of 4-star carriers in 2018.

The route is currently served via Darwin as a stopover which run four times each week. Manila-Darwin-Manila services is planned to be axed from March 24, 2018.

Airline President James J. Bautista said Darwin is "economically unsustainable" for the airline's business model.

Bautista stressed however that they are studying possibility of flying low-cost subsidiary PAL Express to Darwin instead of PAL to take-over the route as it addresses passenger demographic types similar to what was employed in Saipan.

Meanwhile, PAL suspended Kalibo-Guangzhou route starting Jan.1, as part of the restructuring of the flight network in the region. Instead, it will mount an additional Manila-Guangzhou flight every Saturday effective Feb. 1.

“In consideration of the current market conditions, this additional Manila-Guangzhou operation will ensure that efficient air transport services are continuously provided between points in the Philippines and Guangzhou,” PAL said in a statement.

  1. I just read from a forum that PAL first batch of A321neo will feature 168 seats which lower then the 176 seats reported by most forum have reported. Will feature 12 Full-flat business class seats with a seat pitch of 60-inches a width of 23.5-inches and In-seat IFE of 15.6-inches, while economy class will feature a seat pitch of 31 to 32 inches a width of 18-inches and a recline of 5-inches and will feature a 10.1-inch In-seat IFE. The remaining 15 A321neo will be ACF variant (Airbus Cabin Flex) which will start arrving by 2019.

    1. The announcement might have been mixed up. The A321LR will come out in 2019, while the ACF will come out in 2018, not in 2019 is previously reported.

  4. Rebrand back PAL Express first into Airphil before expanding its international flights, and cure this Ramon Ang's mistake.

Airphil (formerly Air Philippines) was low-cost airline owned by Philippine Airlines, while PAL Express (formerly stylized as PAL EXpress) was domestic airline was a domestic airline owned by Philippine Airlines.

    1. All Philippine Airlines Boeing 777-300 ER 's earphone jacks are dual,so if you are planning to bring and used your own headphones/earphones bring an airplane earphone adapter.

  7. The recent decision by Philippine Airlines (PAL) to end its Darwin stop and halt flights from Kalibo to Guangzhou marks a significant shift in their route operations. This could affect travelers who were relying on darwin flights today, as well as those planning trips to or from Kalibo. With changes in flight schedules and potential impacts on the Darwin flight arrivals table, passengers should stay updated on any further developments. It's essential for affected travelers to check for alternatives and rebookings to avoid inconvenience.
