Opens International Flight on July 1

Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is set to open to the public on June 7 and would start its commercial operations on July 1, as scheduled in their concession agreement.

The P17.5-billion Terminal 2 of Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) spans 65,500 square meters and is expected to increase the airport’s passenger capacity to 12.5 million yearly.

The terminal will have an automatic tray return system (ATRS) which would make it easier for passengers to pass through X-ray machines which will automatically return empty trays for passengers to put their bags, ending the hassle to look for one.

Terminal 2 boast seven passenger boarding bridges which can be expanded to 12, 48 check-in counters, which can be expanded to 72, and is expected to increase the airport’s passenger capacity to 12.5 million yearly.

The new Terminal will cater to inbound and outbound international flights. It is equipped with 12 escalators and 15 elevators for seamless access, a car parking facility that can accommodate 550 cars, which can be expanded to 750 cars.

The GMR-Megawide operated Terminal was designed by Hong Kong-based Integrated Design Associates (IDA) together with local designers Budji Layug, Royal Pinda and Kenneth Cobonpue.

Jin Air flight LJ025 from Seoul is expected to be the first user of the airport.

    1. Yes. It is one of the two lounges together with Plaza Premium.

Finally PAL will have its on Lounge at for international flight from Cebu as previously they had to send there premium passengers and mabuhay miles memeber to the Plaza Premium Lounge at the old terminal previously. Hopefilly they would renovate there Domestic lounge once Terminal 1 will under go renovation.

  3. So know what happend to the Old Terminal will it be exclusively used for domestic flights once terminal 2 opens and will they do any renovation considering I had not such a good experience there which feels croweded and not so organized ?

    1. Once Terminal 2 is opened, Terminal 1 is planned to be renovated, and once re-opened will be used for domestic flights. No news yet on when Terminal 1's renovation will begin though.

    2. According to the article once T2 is completed. Renovation of the old Terminal will begin it is expected to be completed by June 2019. Not sure how large the renovation will be however considering it will take nearly a year to work could be quite extensive.

  4. I hope they did extensive test run before they officially open the T2 like what other airports do ie Changi, Dubai etc...

I think they will first test the terminal before moveing all international flights to T2 the first flight to arrived and depart out of T2 will start this July and will only consist of a flew international flights to test how will it operated and once the airport authority deem it ready then it is expected that majority of internatioan flights will be begin to be moved to T2 afterwords.
