Secures Fifth Freedom Rights to Europe

The Philippines has secured fifth Freedom Rights to Europe and an expanded landing rights after Switzerland and the Philippines signed new Air Services Agreement daily daily services between Manila and Zurich, its largest City.

The Philippines first entered Air Services Agreement with Switzerland on 8 March 1952 and was a transit point to Philippine Airlines twice weekly flight to Paris France.

The ASA was last amended in 1994 granting 4 times a week schedule with Swiss Air and Philippine Airlines flying via Bangkok.

  1. Will we be seeing Swiss Air International reopen flights to MNL? At the moment they have 77W terminating at HKG. PAL IMO is not yet ready for ZRH. Right now they're looking into CDG flights on the A350 and that is already a risky move. FCO and MXP are less risky and more sensible routes due to huge population of OFWs. Competition with KLM is fierce because they have extensive connections to eastern and western europe. During Marcos era when PAL was still its crony, they have flights to ZRH on the 747-200B.

    1. Not likely. PAL and SWR interline via HKG. 5th Freedom rights could be a PAL game changer on the way to FRA though.

    2. oh i see. LX is also part of the Lufthansa group along with LH, OS, EW and SN. might be a hint into the future alliance PAL would join in.

  2. Loud Chinese whispers say PAL will resume CDG last quarter of 2019. This could be its catalyst.

  3. why would PAL need to stop in Zurich when the A350 can fly to any European capital non-stop from MNL?

    1. It's like asking why would PAL fly JFK via YVR or LAS via YVR? Of course that is under the bridge now. But the logic is the same when it was flown.

Note too, PAL fly TPE to KIX. Its in the sked. And PAL flies to both TPE and KIX from MNL and the latter from CEB. You may want to see it. The reason why was it flown is likewise the same.
