A Lion Air West Wind 24 aircraft (RP-C5880) carrying eight passengers and crew exploded and caught fire at around 8:00 p.m. on a runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday night killing everyone. It was bound for Narita airport in Tokyo Japan for medical emergency.
The flight manifest consisted of 1 flight medic, 1 nurse, 1 doctor, 3 flight crews (2 pilots, 1 crew), 1 patient and 1 patient assistant consisting of an American and Canadian nationality. The rest are Filipinos.
The CAAP said the ill-fated aircraft was on a take-off roll before it exploded in flames. The Accident Investigation Board (AIB) disclosed it already secured the blockbox to determine the cause of the crash.
