The Government of the Philippines has allocated 7.5 billion for the completion, modernization, and expansion of different airports across the country. 

Airport improvement projects includes acquisition, installation, and upgrades of navigational facilities, and acquisition of navigational equipment.

The funding allocation of these projects will be taken from the proceeds of the 15 years Operations and Maintenance (O&M Contract)  of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, to be awarded this month.

According to Makati City Rep. Luis Campos Jr. said about 22 airports would receive fresh funding under the national government’s 2024 Aviation Transport Infrastructure Program.

“The new funding allocations per airport are itemized in the 2024 General Appropriations Law,” Campos said.

Other airport projects submitted by DOTr failed to secure approval from legislators. They are New Dumaguete Airport Development Project (500 million); and the New Bohol Airport Construction and Sustainable Environment Protection Projects (NBACSEPP), 97 million. In bicameral meeting last September, Congress argued that funding for these projects will be source from Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Korea.

All other airport projects covered by Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) are excluded.

    San Fernando, La Union Airport not on the list. Billions spent to upgrade it for international arrivals. Now it serves as a Flight School.

    1. No airline bothers to fly there, as correctly stated on this blog. Rather, it is defined as National Security airport necessity by DND. Just like Lallo, Itbayat and Pag-asa. You couldn't understand the economics of it, but national security wise, is very important as launching point for fighter jets, be it ours or our allies, in cases of international conflict that seems to be just on the horizon. In case you haven't notice, some are US bases now under the new EDCA.

  3. can we really sustain 3 big airport porjects in the Metro Manila/Bulacan/Pampanga area? Will international airlines fly to multiple airports?

    1. Had there been no covid19, air passenger traffic would have reached 60 million by this time in 2024, beyond the capacity of NAIAs 45mpa and CIAs 10mpas. Sangley capacity is short of a million. Imagine what happens 5 years from now.
