NAMC YS-11 lives!

Interisland fly Vigan and Kalibo on YS-11

Aviation lovers will have reason to celebrate once again as the NAMC YS-11 plane continue to fly the Philippine skies when interisland airlines introduced it to its fleet last month and used it on its regular scheduled flights to Vigan and for Kalibo this week.

The aircraft also performed regular chartered domestic service in Palawan and Caticlan.

The YS-11 aircraft built by Nippon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation first flew to the skies in 1954 and started flying the Philippine skies as early as 1966 with Filipinas Orient Airways (Fairways).

The airline was subsequently absorbed and operated by Philippine Airlines (PAL) when the government ordered airliners consolidation and merger in 1972. The most recent operator of the YS-11 as a passenger carrier was Asian Spirit, now Zest Airways which flew the aircraft to domestic points in the Philippines as well as to Sandakan, Malaysia until last year when it was sold to AMY holdings.

InterIsland Airlines commenced domestic scheduled flights to Mindoro airport in Vigan starting March 19 from Manila domestic airport operating 4 times a week service on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday utilizing 60 seater YS-11 aircraft. It will also fly to Kalibo for the entire holy week season.
