Calbayog Airport Reopens

 

Calbayog Airport reopens in Samar with upgraded runway and terminal among other support facilities.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has opened Calbayog airport yesterday with a bigger and longer runwayn and a new passenger terminal building capable of supporting three A320 jets simultaneously.

CAAP Director-General Jim Sydiongco said the airport can now accommodate jet aircraft operations like the Airbus A320s, supplemented by increased terminal capacity of 450 passengers from the previous 76-passenger capacity mainly used for turboprop operations. (Video Presentation here)

The Director General said the development of the project included “comprehensive landside and airside facilities.”

Other improvements completed include the expansion of its apron, a new taxiway, widening of the runway, runway strip grade correction, runway asphalt overlay, construction of runway safety marker, new parking area, construction of a security fence, and the construction of its drainage system.

The project costs was 627 million for the completed facilities. While other airport improvements to be completed are its administration building, fire rescue bay and access road, and a control tower.
