Philippine Airlines (PAL) has unveiled its new business class seat for its new fleet of Airbus A330-300.
The French-made Equinox 3D Business Class seat from Sogerma offers a fully flat seat at 58” pitch. Amenities include in-seat power supply, USB port, reading light, seat control, In-Flight Entertainment system powered by Apple's Ipad Mini, and wifi connectivity services linked by OnAir.
The new airbus plane has seating capacity of 368, with 18 business class, 27 premium economy seats and 323 Weber 5751 economy class seats.
The airline intends to fly this type of aircraft to Hongkong, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo Haneda, Nagoya, Seoul and Honolulu this year.
Is 2-2-2 herringbone even possible on a 330?
ReplyDeleteI think so. However, I'm disappointed that they seem to still be sticking to their iPad IFE rather than a built in IFE. But given PAL's financial situation, this is understandable. Hopefully when they get back to profitability they retrofit all of their fleet with good IFE, launch more routes, improve their services, and they can regain their pre-financial crisis glory.
DeletePAL considered the back-seat IFE but they found it very expensive, so their solution is to use iPads which have lower purchase cost than the seat back IFE
Deletethey're going to use Wireless IFE... and they are testing it now... PAL "InAir"
DeleteOh look, economy class seats behind. Looks like it's gonna be 3-3-3 seating.
ReplyDeleteits actually a 2-4-2 seating configuration with larger seat pitch of about 18 in. than the all-economy a330 with about 15 in.
ReplyDeleteYou said that, it's 9 abreast (3-3-3).
DeleteIs this a joke pal? Never seen such a ugly a330 in my life. No attention to details in bc. U have airlines who have awesome products why dont u copy abit from them. Awfull
ReplyDeleteInstead of criticizing, why wont you appreciate them bye their slow process improvements of the airline instead. They may not be improving fast like the world class airline at this moment but at least they're improving one step at a time. They dont have enough money just yet to providing all economy and business to have a nice IFE product. But once they start providing flights to New York, Chicago and the most profitable destinations, then im sure thats a sign were PAL should improve by using with those money earned. With this modifications on re-fleeting their aging fleet. Thats a step froward on improving their business and quality of the airline. Just stop criticizing... Give them more than a month to a couple more years until their fleet modernization completes, then im sure their service and IFE will be installed. Its too early to judge. If I see PAL become at least 4 star Airline by then, i'll be laughing at all of you guys. Dont ever judge the book by its cover. PAL has lots to offer, and lots of potential in the future. I believe in PAL and so should you..
DeleteSo try other airlines, and STOP CRITICIZING PHILIPPINE AIRLINES AGAIN.
DeleteI can critisize as much as i want, normally the customer is always right? If u can get business with another 5 star airline for the same price as pal offers and you see what u dont get compare to etihad or qatar then think twice. I travel alot, i cant go with pal on long to Europe since my parents live in Norway. Then i use qatar or singapore. have u seen what u get on qatar 787s? I pay 2 way ticket to norway 800usd. Can pal beat that? Just to lhr is around 800usd and shit product. I use pal around asia and i know what im talking about.. and u say they dont have enough money for ife and good seats, youre wrong.. how come san miguel cant afford good seats and ife on their Brand new planes? They try to save money and their loosing alot on it. If they can afford these a321 they can afford better product inside the planes to.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you just understand the fact that PAL is developing itself slowly? If SMC uses up all ofnits money on PAL then that could lead to bankruptcy. Common sense tells us that that move is too risky for the business. If you are comfortable with the 5-star airline then use it. Ignore PAL if you want. Development comes in stages, it doesn't happen overnight. They can't just burn all their money on IFE. They have to properly allot their money.
DeleteWhat is more expensive? Buying abit more nicer seats now than tearing all apart later for new seats in future. How they can survive is by gambling in epic interior that would make us passangers be willing to pay extra for this product. U wouldnt pay 2000 pesos extra for a free meal and slightly better seat than rival cebupac. It need to be worth it.
DeleteThank you so much, for clarifying it to these type of ignorant people..
DeleteI fly PAL with heart either their no IFE or not. Being with them feels like home.
PAL can always regain back to become world class Airline. If the Asia Financial Crisis did never happen at all. PAL would of been were SIA and Cathay, Malaysia Airlines and etc.. People just dont understand the situation PAL is in. Its tough and its miserably hurting PAL a lot from falling behind. With this step by step process it keep them going, these battle scars wont let PAL give up. Since their back to CAT. 1. Watch PAL grow in this few months. You'll regret the words people has been saying. What kept them back from expanding was the FAA standards. Since their released from prison, being stuck and has limitations, watch them expand and grow bigger through out this year.
Im hoping that PAL will be Skytrax "Most Improved Airline of 2014".
Where are you stuck, 1980s? The customer isn't always right nowadays. Even marketers know that! Yes, it doesn't look awesome but you have to think about the concerns of other pax. If you are referring to the a330s of sq, they are just recliners. Plus, there are bigger stuff than seats that make up good service. What PR must improve way more are their crew and food.
DeleteCustomers are right, fine but when they make irrational criticisms, they are wrong.
Deletefly the other airlines then, take your money where your mouth is!
DeleteHow do tou think these world class airlines became 5 star? By focusing on the flying public!! Pal is 90 of 100th. Look at etihad a 10 year old airline being number 6 now. Pal can do that to, pay attention to details and focus more on hospitality and food! Thats the cheapest way for an airline to gain more pasaangers.
ReplyDeleteThey become 5-star carriers with the help of money and if you are not aware, PAL has recently incurred losses.
DeleteTheir solution?
Cut costs by renewing their fleet. Don't you guys see that despite the high cost of IFE, they are trying?

ReplyDeleteIm with the guy who means pal is bad. I went with pal 777 to US. On business, i could have got business with another airline for the same price, but i wanted to try pal since i havent gone with it for long time. My seat didnt work, so i was sitting straight for the whole flight. Food isnt close to the standard of asiana, garuda or even qatar. Cabincrew talks loud in the galley, the seating is in 2-3-2 wich is not comfortable. And seeing these seats in 2 2 2 config on a330 is ok, but without IFE. Thats most important for me on a long flight. Common pal
ReplyDeleteI went with pal 777 to US? Really? When was this?
DeleteI came to LAX on Saturday with 777 flight
DeleteAll you defenders or pal! Keep wishing, sooner or later they will go bankrupt because of wrong choises. Their flights to europe is very empty. Last time was around 70 pax to london. The flight is to long and many ongoing passangers cant reach their flights to other cities. Their losses will keep increase because of their lack of style and comfy.
ReplyDeleteTheir losses will keep INCREASING because of their lack of style and comfy.
Delete*defenders of Pal
Delete*choices
*to europe ARE
*too long
*style and comfort
sorry...medyo OC
PAL a world class airline? Are you from planet of the apes?
ReplyDeleteNope, we are in fact from the Planet of the Optimistic People.
DeletePal will never be a world class airline, look at the airport and the airline. I wish they couls have done like garuda indonesia and improve their quality in every aspect. Not be a cheapo! I like pal as an airline, but never as a passanger. I m a emirates airline fan where i get my money worth for every penny.. and i feel like home there to, so many pinay crew
ReplyDeleteI just really don't understand you superficial people. If you think pal is worthless, why read this article and discuss about it? I read this article because I believe that PAL is still capable of restoring its glory. If you have no faith in PAL, why comment and argue?
DeleteLet's bank on Cebu Pacific to be the world class airline. Wooo ;)
ReplyDeleteBecause you guys are too pciky and cannot appreciate the fact that PAL is trying despite the reality that Filipinos are mostly budget travelers.
Deleteyour close mindedness has obviously shown, Mr May 7, 2014 at 5:33 pm.
DeleteI was expecting so much from PR on their new a321, looking at pictures of new seats new chef for food etc. When i tried it, i understand now why their airplanes are so empty. I feel sorry to them for the people who designed this interior. Their new product is much less comfortable than the old one, it looks nice but doesent feel comfortable at all. I took this flight from Mnl-sgn . 2 hours and 40min flight. Adobo was not good!

ReplyDeleteFor those who doesn't believe in PAL, or doesn't like their service or products, why bother reading or commenting? Each and everyone is free to choose which airline he/she prefers. PAL doesn't need you and your "world class" attitude...
ReplyDeletethe seats are nice if you ask me.. its just the color they're using is not really eye pleasing.. in short mejo boring..looks a litte like hospital interior lol
ReplyDeleteWhenever there are discussion about product of pal most are 80% percent negative, same when u read skytrax from passangers. I enjoy pal thesedays as its very good space on many flights because of low demand. Mostly 50% full compare to 5j. A321 is good but not when i compare to virgin america a320 wich is lowcost.. and i think london flight will close down soon and vancouver. My friend used it to london and passangers was around 70 only. Enough to fill an atr, basically they loose hundreds of thousand everyday
ReplyDeleteAnd guys who get angry when people critize pal are scared of them going down. Do u guys remember what ramon ang said when he bought the airline? He will make his product competetive towards singapore cathay , as he will make it a legacy airline, and u guys should be upset when he comes with this product to compete against the big players.. when i go with pal im smiling when i get plastic cutlery as its becoming a 4 star airline.
ReplyDeleteLOL.... i Remember Ramon ang on the news that Pal will be like cathay and singapore airlines in very short time.. pal is 5 star in Philippines and 3 star for travellers who knows what to look for.
ReplyDeleteDo u guys know why pal didnt get ife on their airplanes? Since they thought we would rather have internet than high end ife. And they proved themselves wrong. Not because of money, they expected this losses to happen and they were in talks with panasonic for ife and changed their mind that onAIR is good enough. They have the money as banks are wild to lend them.
ReplyDeleteI just hope that there are overhead screens on this plane. That way, people can watch the inflight safety video instead of having the flight attendant demonstrate them live. It will also give passengers a chance to see the map.
ReplyDeleteI love PAL and I've been following our own airlines for long time ago. But I was disappointed with how the management runs this company. From LT group to SMC group, it seems no improvement or even became worse. No IFE and cramped seating. The legacy carrier now looks like a LCC. Don't mention about EK, SQ, CX, TG, QR, EY and the likes coz PR is very far behind them. Have you seen Garuda and Sri Lankan? Their economy seats are fitted with individual IFE. So even on these airlines, PR cannot compete. What I'm trying to say is why the management is investing to poor and budgeted service to compete with LCC? There are so many things that PR can offer if they will do the proper management of the company. How do we expect people from Beer and food company to run an airlines?
ReplyDeleteDid I just see one seat higher than the other when in bed mode? So I presume that there will be an overlap in the foot section which would be very awkward if you travel alone and a total stranger sits next to you. Just think about doing virtual footsie on the flight. For me this is just insane aside from the ugly color scheme....just my two cents.
ReplyDeleteAnd hopefully someone at PAL will please point out that the wavvy ripple besides the stitching on the seat... That is a sign that the stitching on the upholstery has been done incorrectly. Please insure that gets corrected. Anyone with a textile and design background will attest.
ReplyDeleteTo those criticizing PAL, you're wrong. If Philippines doesn't suffered on being blacklisted on ICAO, Category 2 imposed by FAA, and banned by EU, PAL is now a world class airline that provides good services. PAL is doing their job to improve after the lifting of safety issues imposed to Philippines. They also suffered from losses.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know pal would be a world class airline if finance crisis never happened? Something u should know is that every world class airline have a world class airport. Even thoigh pal would make everything perfect there is one major obstacle. Naia itself. They improved abit, but not enough to make people pay for this kind of premium compare to other carriers l ike cx or asiana. I think of america flights where most filipinos go. I tried pal a321 and its not good. Far from satisfied. Even they dont have enough blankets.. look at their flights, its almost enpty to many places
DeleteOne thing is for sure, it is going to be 9 seats abreast. The previous models of all A330's and A340's have a 2-4-2 seat configuration which totals 8 seats abreast. Thats tight man. Like cramped. Same with Cebu Pacific's new A330's. I understand that they're doing this to accommodate more passengers BUT at the cost of passenger comfort? I'm fine if it's going to be for domestic or even regional flights. But they plan to use these planes with new configuration for long haul flights like 8 to 10 hours or more. I mean come on.
