Philippine Airlines Express Dash 8-400 (RP-C5905) flight number PR2680 from Cebu overruns the runway by about 100 meters beyond threshold while landing at Busuanga Airport around 2:51pm Sunday causing its closure to traffic. All 53 passengers and 4 crew members evacuated via the aircraft stairs safely. According to CAAP, the aircraft landed in bad weather during a strong downpour. Video footage of the plane landing recorded by passengers appears to point to pilot error after it failed to land at the markers while also failing to deploy reverse thrust fully for the plane to stop fast enough.

China Airlines Wing Clipped at NAIA

A Philippine Airlines Airbus A330-300 (RP-C8766) doing flight PR318 bound to Hong Kong hit the winglet of adjacent China Airlines Airbus A330-300 (B-18317) while on push-back around 10:15am Tuesday, causing both planes to be grounded. 

No one was reported hurt in the accident. The return flight of CI-701 was cancelled pending safety investigation and repair works. 

China Airlines said the CI701 plane only suffered minor damage, but it had decided to send a replacement A330-300 aircraft that evening with CI702 departing at 7:40pm for the return leg from Manila to Taoyuan airport.

The damaged plane will remain in the Philippines for repair and maintenance, according to the carrier.

A Cessna 206 (RP-C1174) carrying six people from Cauayan Airport to Maconacon Airport crashed about 2:30pm Tuesday  in Isabela killing everyone on board.

Among the passengers are pilot Captain Eleazar Mark Joven and passengers Tommy Manday, Val Kamatoy, Mark Eiron Siguerra, Xam Siguerra, and Josefa Perla España.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Cessna 206 plane is supposed to arrive at its intended destination at Maconacon Airport in Isabela Province at 2:45pm. 

It however failed to reached the airport prompting Cauayan Tower to alert the CAAP head office about the missing aircraft at around 3:17 p.m.

"RPC1174 departed Cauayan Airport at 2:15 p.m. and its last contact with the air traffic controller was at 2:19 p.m. when it was within the vicinity of Naguillian Bridge," said CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio in a statement released Today.

"It was expected to arrive at Maconacon at 2:45 p.m. Flight time is 30 minutes. Search and Rescue operation (SAR) began at 4pm." Apolonio adds.

CAAP said the weather was clear when the plane left Cauayan Airport, but the wind around Sierra Madre was reportedly "turbulent," prompting the Philippine Air Force (PAF) which conducted the search to suspend rescue operations.

Up to this time the aircraft remains missing as air assets of the PAF cannot locate the down plane due to bad weather.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Air Force lost two of its pilots when its SF260 Marchetti plane crashed in Del Rosario, Pilar, Bataan killing both pilots this morning.

PAF spokesman Colonel Consuelo Castillo said investigation are on going on what caused the plane crash. Identities of fatalities are withheld pending notification of their respective families.

Mactan to go VFR after ILS destroyed

Mactan Cebu International Airport (CEB) announced Monday morning that Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) at the airport's runway 22 is temporarily suspended after Korean Air Airbus A330 destroyed the Instrument Landing System (ILS) localizer at runway. Airport owner Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) said that it secured permission from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAAP) to resume visual flight rules at the airport around 4:00pm-6:00pm to allow departures of stranded aircraft, and arrival of light passenger planes at the opposite side of the runway. Among the stranded aircraft are Turkish Airlines A350-900 bound for Istanbul via Manila, and Jeju Air bound to Seoul which were allowed to leave. According to latest Notice to Airman (NOTAM) the airport's runway is still closed to civil aviation traffic due to aircraft obstruction at the end of the runway. MCIAA said they will be moving the aircraft later tonight and tomorrow after the Aircraft Accident Inquiry and Investigation Board (AIIB) finishes its investigation to the mishap. CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said Mactan should be open to traffic as early as tomorrow evening at 6:00pm at its latest NOTAM advisory, after the Korean plane is removed from its current location and transferred to at least 50 meters off the runway center-line.

Korean Air Overshoots Mactan Runway

A Korean Air Airbus A330-200 skidded on landing at Mactan International Airport Sunday evening around 11:11pm due to very bad weather. Flight #KE631 (HL7525) from Seoul with 162 passengers and 11 crew, aborted two previous landing attempts due to heavy downpours and poor visibility. No one is reported hurt in the excursion. Aircraft is beyond repair and expected to be written off. Details to follow.

Cessna Trainer Crashed In Lingayen

A Cessna 152 plane (RP-C8202) crashed upside down in Sual, Alaminos town at around 9 a.m. killing its instructor pilot and injuring its student Wednesday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the aircraft belonging to Fast Aviation Academy flew from Lingayen airport (RPUG) around 8:22am for educational training flight. 

CAAP identified the fatality as Capt. Daryl Uy, while his 21-year-old student pilot was identified as Caran France Kaura who suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to the Western Pangasinan District Hospital for treatment.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board's (AAIIB) Go Team was dispatched to the crash scene to determine the cause of the incident.

This is the second aircraft loss by Fast Aviation Academy after losing RP-C8230 in May 26 this year, attributed to pilot error, killing its student pilot.

Cessna Crashed Off El Nido

MANILA – A Cessna U206 aircraft with registry number RP-C979 crashed in El Nido, Palawan on Friday, according to a Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) report.

The crash happened west northwest of Barangay Tiniguiban off Duli beach.

The pilot, Capt. Jason Evasco, and a female mechanic, Angele Ranario, were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). They were transporting 25 boxes of live fish.

"The first responders were fishermen around the area, but due to big waves, the fishermen were unable to rescue the persons on board," the CAAP said.

The aircraft left San Vicente Airport at 1:06 p.m. en route to Sangley Airport in Cavite City, but forced landed due to engine failure.

The PCG report said Capt. Angel Viliran, Palawan district commander, deployed a search and rescue team and spotted the aircraft, reportedly a Cessna U206 Skywagon, at around 3:50 p.m.

At around 4:24 p.m. Evasco, 39, and Ranario, 27, were rescued.

The PCG gathered that while crossing at about 6500 to 7500 feet above sea level at the vicinity of Sitio Dagmay in Barangay Tiniguiban, an “engine out” occurred.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board will help determine the cause of the accident, the CAAP said. (PNA)

PAF Air Ambulance Down

A Philippine Air Force (PAF) S-76A air ambulance helicopter crashed in the mountains of Lantawan, Basilan killing two pilots and two crews on board yesterday afternoon.

The helicopter belonging to the 505th Search and Rescue Group departed from Edwin Andrew Air Base (EAAB) at 12:33 p.m. was heading to Jolo, Sulu, for a medevac mission when it crashed in Upper Manggas, Lantawan.

Lantawan Municipal Administrator Tahira Ismael-Sansawi said the helicopter was trying to gain altitude and fly away from bad weather when it was caught in the middle and was suck downwards, in a weather phenomenon known as "downdraft".

"Nakita ko po hinihila siya pababa ng hanghin tapos bumagsak at sumabog," says the former Mayor of Lantawan.

The administrator said Lantawan is suffering bad weather and strong winds before the crash up to this time due to Habagat.


This S-76A Sikorsky helicopter was acquired by the PAF in 1983, and delivered to the Philippines in 1984 performing gunship air support roles before it was relegated to ambulance service in 2011.

Medevac plane explodes in NAIA on Taxeoff

A Lion Air West Wind 24 aircraft (RP-C5880) carrying eight passengers and crew exploded and caught fire at around 8:00 p.m. on a runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday night killing everyone. It was bound for Narita airport in Tokyo Japan for medical emergency.

The flight manifest consisted of 1 flight medic, 1 nurse, 1 doctor, 3 flight crews (2 pilots, 1 crew), 1 patient and 1 patient assistant consisting of an American and Canadian nationality. The rest are Filipinos.

The CAAP said the ill-fated aircraft was on a take-off roll before it exploded in flames. The Accident Investigation Board (AIB) disclosed it already secured the blockbox to determine the cause of the crash.

Med-Evac Plane Crashes

An Lion Air Inc. operated King Air B300 (350) (RP-C2296) plane suffered engine trouble and crashed in Laguna Sunday afternoon. (another video here)

The plane crashed in Barangay Pansol in Calamba City killing nine people on board and injuring two others on the ground.

The King Air aircraft was transporting a patient from Dipolog City to Metro Manila for treatment.

The fatalities were identified as:

3. Dr. Garret Garcia
4. Kirk Eoin Badiola (nurse)

Xiamen Airlines B737-800 (B-5498) crashed landed in Manila International Airport after landing in heavy downpour last night and rolled longer than usual on runway 24 six minutes before midnight. There is no ILS on runway 24 and landing is purely visual at minimum. Flight #MF8667 with 165 passengers and crew came from Xiamen. No injuries reported.  Plane is declared write-off.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal said the plane attempted to land twice. On the second try, the plane lost contact with the NAIA airport tower.

Runway to open at 4am Saturday after retrieval of  aircraft on runway. Runway 13-31 remained open but affected all widebody flights that uses the main runway.

Piper Crashed at Plaridel Airport

A Piper PA-23 Apache plane (RP-C299) belonging to Lite Air Express crashed at 11:21am after take-off at Plaridel airport killing its two pilot and four passengers. It was bound for Laoag International Airport.

The ill-fated aircraft was flown by Capt. Ruel Meloria and co-pilot Efren Patugalan. Names of passengers were withheld until notifications are made to their respective families.

The plane crashed in a residential area belonging to Luisa Santos at Purok 3 Brgy. Lumang Bayan, Plaridel, Bulacan this morning killing five person on the ground which involved the whole family that reside in the house where the plane fell.

Initial investigation from the Flight Safety and Inspectorate Service disclosed that the aircraft stalled after climbing and plunged into the house. The cause of the stall remains unknown.

CAAP said all aircraft operated by Lite Air Express would be grounded pending results of the investigation.

Iloilo Airport Closes After Aircraft Accident

5J 461 Verred Off Runway

A Cebu Pacific (CEB) Airbus 320 plane with serial number RP-C3237(sn) carrying 180 passengers from Manila has veered right off runway after landing at Iloilo International Airport runway 20 Friday evening ended up stopping on the grass.

All passengers were accounted for and was safely evacuated after the airline initiated emergency evacuation procedure when the aircraft came to a complete stop after landing.

The airport was declared closed by Civil Aviation Authority (CAAP) last night because of runway obstruction affecting 33 subsequent domestic and international flight to Iloilo.



The airport is expected to be closed until Sunday evening.

The pilots of Airbus Helicopter (RP-C2688) AS350B2 type operated by Macroasia Air Taxi Services that went on rescue mission Monday and never arrived at its destination was retrieved yesterday by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) with bodies of two pilots still strapped on the French-built helicopter.

The ill-fated chopper was supposed to pick up and rescue stranded construction and engineering personnel working at the Sumag diversion tunnel in Quezon but it went missing along the way to the mine site last Monday, August 22, and its location unknown. Bad weather with heavydownpour and strong turbulence was reported in the area on the date of the crash.

CAAP Operations and Rescue Coordinating Center (ORCC) identified the fatalities as Capt. Miguel C. Logronio and his Aircraft Mechanic Eng. Jay Gregorio.

Bad weather foiled search and rescue efforts to retrieve bodies of the helicopter pilot and his assistant after being found by SAR Sokol (922) helicopter of the 505th search and rescue group Tuesday afternoon. Rescue teams were prevented by zero visibility, strong winds and heavy rains from reaching the crash site until Saturday morning when a helicopter from the same company piloted by Capt. Jojo Consunji was able to penetrate the crash site and dropped two rescuers to the ground over the mountains of Gen. Nakar town in Quezon Province. Retrieval and recovery operations by the 505th search and rescue group at Villamor Airbase were concluded Sunday morning.

Civilian volunteers Pureforce Rescue group, Conrad Tomeldan, Jude Estrada, Capt. Boy Garucho, Alex Limjuoco, Cavdeal, MWSS, Transcare and the local Dumagats in the area also helped search for the missing chopper.

CAAP  Releases Final Report of Davao Incident

Pilots of a Cebu Pacific Airbus A320 should have executed a go-around rather than pursue an unstable approach into Davao, which resulted in a runway excursion that damaged the jet.

The aircraft passed through a burst of intense rain as it neared touchdown and the captain “misconstrued” runway edge lights as centreline lights, states the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

It says the weather conditions “severely affected the judgement and decision-making” of the captain, who was flying, and that the rain “obscured” visibility of the runway.

The aircraft “failed to maintain” a stabilised profile during the VOR/DME approach and was still left of the runway 23 centreline moments before touchdown.

Investigators point out that the first officer was calling for the aircraft’s course to be shifted more to the right. But the subsequent correction took the aircraft too far to the right of the centreline, aligning it with the right-hand edge lights.

It landed about 30m before the touchdown point, some 190m from the threshold, close to the right-hand runway edge and crabbing about 3° to the right.

All three landing-gear assemblies had left the runway by the time the aircraft had rolled some 500m, and the jet travelled another 330m on soft ground. There were no injuries among the 165 passengers and six crew.

The jet had been landing at Davao in darkness on 2 June 2013.

Investigators found evidence of “lapses, omissions and contradictory words” by the crew, adding that the captain was probably apprehensive about landing in poor weather, at night, using a non-precision approach.

While a go-around was “necessary”, it was not carried out, possibly because the pilot’s attention was “narrowed” by his focus on the difficult conditions, says the inquiry.

Missed-approach procedures in such conditions were “seldom practised” during recurrent training, the inquiry adds, and the “over-use” of airports with centreline lights “deprived” crews of the chance to improve flight skills at airports without such systems.

Oshkosh In Action at DVO

A Philippine Airlines (PAL) Airbus A321-200 aircraft (RP-C9919) made an emergency landing at the Davao International Airport Friday afternoon, September 11, after smoke alarm was triggered in the cockpit for a possible fire in its baggage compartment.

PAL flight PR-1814 left the Davao airport at 1:07 p.m. and was climbing through FL200 out of Davao's runway 23 when the crew received an aft cargo smoke indication. The pilot immediately called the Mactan control around 1:15 pm requesting for an emergency landing in Cebu, but the pilot was instead advised to turn back to Davao which is still the nearest airport with Cat 12 CRFs.

The plane was directed for priority landing at runway 23 at 1:33 pm about 30 minutes after departure. Attending emergency services found no trace of fire, smoke or heat in the aft cargo hold.

No one was reported injured in the evacuation of 131 passengers but one passenger passed out due to stress and was immediately brought to Davao Medical Center.

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said the affected passengers were re-accommodated on the next available flights to Manila.

The aircraft which had been parked at the old terminal for technical evaluation, assessment and investigation by PAL, and CAAP safety personnel has since flown back to Manila. - Image courtesy Francis Magbanua

ATR Hit By Thunderbolt

A Cebu Pacific ATR plane (5J892) was hit by lightning while gaining altitude  on its way to Manila from Kalibo after it left the airport around 6:50AM today.

No one was reported injured on the incident.

Dipolog Flight Hits Hailstorm

A Philippine Airlines A320 flight (PR2557) bound for Dipolog was forced to return to Manila airport this morning after encountering massive hailstorm that broke its windshield endangering the aircraft pressurization integrity.

The plane was reaching for higher altitude after take-off when huge hailstorm bombarded its frame causing cracks to its windshield.

The Airbus aircraft successfully returned to the airport with no reported injuries. A replacement flight was later flown in the afternoon.

A109 Helicopter Crashes

5 July 2015

An Augusta 109E helicopter (RP-C2726) carrying seven (7) passengers crashed yesterday noon at Barangay Pinagkaisan, Cuenca, Batangas killing its pilot and another passenger while heading back to Manila Domestic Airport from Puerto Galera in Mindoro Oriental, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.

Initial crah investigation reports from survivors disclosed the helicopter encountering strong winds and zero visibility in Batangas.

All the passengers except one survived the accident.

CAAP said the helicopter which stayed overnight in Puerto Galera was not cleared to fly to Manila before the accident took place because its pilot did not file a flight plan.

The helicopter operated by Malate Tourist Development Corporation was piloted Capt. Felicisimo Taborlupa who died on the spot while another passenger, Archimedes "Archie" King of Victoria Hotel chains died afterwards after being treated at Martin Marasigan Memorial Hospital in Cuenca, Batangas.

Helicopter passengers include Ling Ling, the wife of King, spouses Ricco and Tina Ocampo, Anton San Diego, Christopher and Patricia Chilip.

Jet Hit By Typhoon

A 19-seater Bombadier Global 5000 Express jet (RP-C9363) carrying 16 persons on board swerved the runway Saturday upon takeoff and likely incurred substantial damage as it was hit by very strong crosswind brought by typhoon Amang (Mekkhala) at Tacloban airport shortly after 1 p.m.

The Bombardier aircraft owned by San Miguel Corporation was operated by Challenger Aero as charter flight for government officials overseeing the Pope activities in Tacloban City.

No one was reported hurt.
