Airline Re-Assignments Not Final

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has denied reports circulating online and via traditional media on supposed new airline assignments at the NAIA saying that they are NOT YET FINAL.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal confirms that new assignments have been discussed with the airlines, but no concrete decision has been made yet, in view of the many options available for consideration.


Monreal said they remain as proposal until fully approved by the airport authority.

  1. Of course PAL will not allow this to happen since theyre investing heavily on their new lounge at T2 and making necessary preparations and modifications for accomodating their A359.

Don't forget Cebu Pacific will also not like this since there passengers will have to transfer between T2 to T3 if they would need to conncect between domestic and international flights, also changeing aircraft being assigned to T2 will need to cross runway 13/31 in order to position to the gate.

  2. retain PAL in T2. All other domestic flights in t1. and all other international flights in t3

    1. PAL currently does not have enough gates. With more new planes arriving. They need to build a new expanding gates in Terminal 2. Not going to happen with the new airport in 10 years in Bulacan.

Why not placed all the flight on fewer terminals instead of the current layout which is in-efficent and is not seemless for passengers to conncet between domestic flights to international or other way around. I think this could be due to Ed Monreal view that MNL is a destination airport not a hub for connecting passengers and while I agree with him that NAIA can never be like Singapore-Changi due to cost or how expensive will it be. He dosen't seem to take in to account that NAIA is a major hub for nearly all airlines in the philippines. Air Asia, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines all have domestic flights nearly all part of the country when compared to other airports outside of MNL there market is larger in comparison like CEB or DVO. However I think Ed view is justifiable when you look at the statistic international arrivals most passenger arriving are really those who are staying at Metro Manila while only a flew will conncet between international and domestic and most going to secondary cities to which have a sizeble number of international guest arrving throw MNL. So think both Airlines and Airport Authority should work togther to help to de-congest MNL rather then argueing which way should NAIA be operated the airport as whole. Also I think secondary airport like CEB, CRK, DVO, ILO, KLO and PPS. Should countiue to be open up to international flights which will also help de-congest MNL.
