PALEx Sees it as Clark Alternative
Low Cost Carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) has made known its intention to make Sangley Airport in Cavite as hub of its cargo aircraft fleet, an official of the budget carrier said Tuesday.
“This will become the hub and base for our two turboprop freighters that we will have in our fleet,” Cebu Pacific vice president for Cargo Division and Cebgo president Alex Reyes said.
Cebu Pacific said there are no plans yet to transfer its turbo prop operations from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Sangley. Cebgo flights operates out of NAIA Terminal 4 together with other airlines Airswift, Skyjet and Royal Air.
“Ang commitment po namin sa gobyerno is we will operate both our cargo freighters here in Sangley," Reyes said.
Only two turboprop airlines manifest intent to operate at the Sangley airport, CEB and PAL. Of the two, PAL doesn't have landing slots at NAIA airport of its turboprops as all of its flight slots were taken away by bigger aircraft, the Airbus A320.
Civil Aviation Authority Director General Captain Jim Sydiongco disclosed that they already have an airline operator at the airport that will operate at least 20 flights a day but defer the announcement of its commencement to the airline concerned.
Sydiongco did not disclosed the airline. But according to the CNN Philippines interview, he said PAL Express is looking at operating at Sangley Airport.
